      Interesting question.
      Apparently there is a term for it-contagious yawning. Some individuals are more likely to be affected by contagious yawning compared to others. You can even yawn by seeing this word-or watching a tv clip of someone yawning. Studies have suggested that this is due to empathy. However, the largest study done on this subject did not support this finding and was inconclusive. So no one really knows-yet- why yawning is contagious.
      The other type of yawning-spontaneous yawning is thought to occur when someone is tired or bored. And apparently starts when a baby is in the womb!
