      @aawb279,
      HIV in infants can be transmitted during birth, by coming into contact with maternal blood or later during breastfeeding. In kenya, there is a big govt. campaign and policies aimed at preventing mother to child transmissions (pmtct) and part of this campaign is aimed at screening mothers early during pregnancy. HIV infected mothers are given arvs which in turn leads to lower viral loads, which in turn results lowered chances of mothers infecting their children.
      In kenya, these campaigns have been successful, with alot of children born of infected mothers living virus free.
      However, if a child is infected through one route or the other, they are put on treatment which will include ARVs. The best management for HIV infection includes ensuring that the viral load, or number of viruses within the system is very low. Good diet also boosts your immune system and ensures that you can keep off other infections.
