      This is not at all in my area of specialization but I will attempt to give a simple explanation-maybe not comprehensive.
      Light waves from the sun, or other sources travel in all directions and is referred to as unpolarized light. However, passing this light through a polaroid filter aligns the direction of scatter of the light waves resulting in polarized light. This helps to reduce glare and make images clearer.
      Polaroid filters have been used to make polaroid lense glasses which can be used by drivers for instance to cut out the glare from the sun and enable them see clearly, making driving safe.
