      I do not think so.
      In the study of animals ie zoology, all the animals are classified using different characteristics and I am yet to come across any definition that has organisms which are vertebrates and posses both fish and human like features. For this reason, i believe that mermaids are a creation of disneyworld and fictional movies and writings. Having said that, there is a possibility that scientists have not yet discovered all the organisms that live on earth-so maybe!
      Recently on media, there was a story on merpeople-not sure why they didn’t want to be called mermaids. These are a community in Australia I think who wear a prosthetic silicone tail-similar to that of a mermaid and spend most of the time swimming in the ocean. These people confess to feeling as though they were meant to live in the ocean and their legs felt like a disability
